A parent is a caretaker of the offspring in their own species. In humans, a parent is the mother or the father figure of a child (NOTE: "child" refers to offspring, not age). Children can have more than one or two parents, but they can only have two biological parents. Biological parents consist of the male who sired the child and the female who gave birth to the child. In all human societies, the biological mother and father are both responsible for raising their young. However, this is not always the case. An adoptive parent is one who nurtures and raises the offspring of the biological parents but are not actually biologically related to the child. Children without adoptive parents can be raised by their grandparents or other family members.

Father

Main article: Father

Like mothers, fathers may be categorised according to their biological, social or legal relationship with the child. Historically, the biological relationship paternity has been determinative of fatherhood. However, proof of paternity has been intrinsically problematic and so social rules often determined who would be regarded as a father e.g. the husband of the mother.

How can you prove the custodial parent gets grants for their childs College to prove in court?
Q. The child is in college. The non-custodial parent pays child support but the custodial parent and the child lied in court and said they did NOT receive any grants. The judge increased the order amount regarding school. It's TOO much but it's based on the child and the parents lie. The school won't give any financial aid information because the non-custodial parent's name is not on the FAFSA application.

What is required of a parent who homeschools their child?
Q. How open is the curriculum? Who monitors what the parent/parents teache and how often are the parents monitored? What paperwork do the parents have to keep? How many hours should the parents expect to spend each day towards homeschooling? I'm currently in a Graduate elementary ed. class, and I'm reading a book where a child is being homeschooled. I am curious as to the process the parents and child have to go through.

A. Curriculum choices are abundant. Parents should not be monitored. Adults don't need that unless they have committed a crime. Homeschoolers are not criminals. What is paperwork? I keep my student's work. Hours spent will depend on the need of each child and also on the learning capacity of each. Some homeschoolers get their work done in 2 hours. We choose to study for 4 to 6 hours depending on the age of the child and the difficulty of the material. The process I went through included TWELVE years of preparation. It took me 12 years!!! 12 years to be ready to homeschool my child. I studied kindegarten through high-school --- I learned all of the material and received very good grades. My knowledge base is filled with the… [cont.]

What happens to children when a single parent is incarcerated?
Q. Do children automatically get placed into foster care? Does it depend on the family situation? Does the crime or the length of the sentence affect whether or not children are put up for adoption? What if a parent is released early or found innocent? Are the children returned to the parent?
